1 But speak thou the things which become sound doctrine: 2 That the aged men be sober, grave, temperate, sound in faith, in charity, in patience. 3 The aged women likewise, that they be in behaviour as becometh holiness, not false accusers, not given to much wine, teachers of good things; 4 That they may teach the young women to be sober, to love their husbands, to love their children, 5 To be discreet, chaste, keepers at home, good, obedient to their own husbands, that the word of God be not blasphemed. 6 Young men likewise exhort to be sober minded. 7 In all things shewing thyself a pattern of good works: in doctrine shewing uncorruptness, gravity, sincerity, 8 Sound speech, that cannot be condemned; that he that is of the contrary part may be ashamed, having no evil thing to say of you. 9 Exhort servants to be obedient unto their own masters, and to please them well in all things ; not answering again; 10 Not purloining, but shewing all good fidelity; that they may adorn the doctrine of God our Saviour in all things. 11 For the grace of God that bringeth salvation hath appeared to all men, 12 Teaching us that, denying ungodliness and worldly lusts, we should live soberly, righteously, and godly, in this present world; 13 Looking for that blessed hope, and the glorious appearing of the great God and our Saviour Jesus Christ; 14 Who gave himself for us, that he might redeem us from all iniquity, and purify unto himself a peculiar people, zealous of good works. 15 These things speak, and exhort, and rebuke with all authority. Let no man despise thee.
Învăţătura sănătoasă
1 Tu însă spune lucrurile care se potrivesc cu învăţătura sănătoasă. 2 Bătrânii să fie treji, demni de cinste, cumpătaţi, sănătoşi în credinţă, în dragoste, în răbdare. 3 Bătrânele, de asemenea, să aibă o purtare cum se cuvine sfinţilor, să nu fie bârfitoare şi nici robite de vin mult. Ele trebuie să îndemne la bine, 4 să le îndrume pe cele tinere să-şi iubească bărbaţii, să-şi iubească copiii, 5 să fie cumpătate, curate, să aibă grijă de casa lor, să fie bune, supuse bărbaţilor lor, ca să nu fie defăimat cuvântul lui Dumnezeu. 6 Pe cei tineri, de asemenea, îndeamnă-i să fie cumpătaţi, 7 în toate arătându-te că tu însuţi eşti model de fapte bune. Dă dovadă de învăţătură neschimbătoare, demnă, 8 arată că ai cuvânt sănătos, ireproşabil, pentru ca cei ce se împotrivesc să fie ruşinaţi şi să nu aibă nimic rău de spus despre noi. 9 Îndeamnă-i pe sclavi să se supună stăpânilor lor în toate privinţele, să fie plăcuţi, să nu le întoarcă vorba, 10 să nu fure nimic, ci să arate pe deplin bună credinţă, ca în toate să facă cinste învăţăturii lui Dumnezeu, Mântuitorul nostru.
11 Pentru că harul mântuitor al lui Dumnezeu s-a arătat tuturor oamenilor, 12 învăţându-ne să părăsim fărădelegea şi poftele lumeşti, şi să trăim în veacul acesta în chip cumpătat, cu dreptate şi cucernicie, 13 aşteptând fericita nădejde şi arătarea slavei marelui nostru Dumnezeu şi Mântuitor, Iisus Hristos, 14 care s-a dat pe Sine pentru noi, ca să ne răscumpere din nelegiuire şi să curăţească pentru Sine un popor ales, plin de râvnă pentru fapte bune. 15 Spune aceste lucruri, îndeamnă şi mustră cu toată autoritatea. Nimeni să nu te dispreţuiască!
