Salutări
1 Pavel, apostol al lui Hristos Iisus, după porunca lui Dumnezeu, Mântuitorul nostru, şi a lui Hristos Iisus, nădejdea noastră, 2 către Timotei, adevărat fiu în credinţă, har, milă şi pace de la Dumnezeu Tatăl şi de la Hristos Iisus, Domnul nostru.
Sfaturi împotriva învăţătorilor falşi
3 După cum te-am îndemnat când am plecat spre Macedonia, rămâi în Efes, ca să porunceşti unora să nu răspândească alte învăţături 4 şi să nu dea atenţie miturilor şi genealogiilor care nu se mai sfârşesc. Acestea aduc mai degrabă certuri decât lucrarea mântuitoare a lui Dumnezeu care se înfăptuieşte prin credinţă. 5 Iar ţinta poruncii este dragostea care vine din inimă curată, din conştiinţa bună şi din credinţa sinceră. 6 Unii s-au abătut de la acestea şi au alunecat în vorbire deşartă. 7 Ei vor să fie învăţători ai Legii, fără să înţeleagă însă nici ce spun, nici lucrurile de care vor să îi convingă pe alţii.
8 Noi ştim că Legea este bună dacă cineva o foloseşte cum se cuvine. 9 Ştim că Legea nu este dată pentru oamenii drepţi, ci pentru cei fărădelege şi nesupuşi, necredincioşi şi păcătoşi, fără evlavie şi întinaţi, pentru ucigaşi de tată şi de mamă, pentru asasini, 10 pentru desfrânaţi, homosexuali, pentru negustori de sclavi, pentru mincinoşi, pentru cei care jură strâmb sau săvârşesc orice alt lucru care se împotriveşte învăţăturii sănătoase, 11 cea după evanghelia slavei fericitului Dumnezeu, evanghelie care mi-a fost încredinţată.
Mulţumire pentru bunătatea chemării divine
12 Îi mulţumesc Celui ce m-a întărit, Hristos Iisus, Domnul nostru, fiindcă m-a găsit vrednic de încredere şi m-a chemat să-I slujesc. 13 Deşi în trecut huleam, prigoneam şi batjocoream Biserica, El mi-a arătat îndurare, pentru că am făcut acele lucruri din neştiinţă, în lipsa credinţei. 14 Iar harul Domnului nostru s-a revărsat din plin asupra mea, împreună cu credinţa şi dragostea care sunt în Iisus Hristos.
15 Vrednic de crezut şi pe deplin vrednic de primit este cuvântul: „Hristos Iisus a venit în lume să-i mântuiască pe cei păcătoşi”, dintre care cel dintâi sunt eu. 16 De aceea mi s-a arătat îndurare, ca în mine, cel dintâi dintre păcătoşi, Hristos Iisus să-şi arate pe deplin îndelunga Sa răbdare, ca exemplu pentru cei care vor crede în El şi vor primi viaţa veşnică. 17 Iar Împăratului veacurilor, nemuritorului, nevăzutului, unicului Dumnezeu – cinste şi slavă, în vecii vecilor. Amin!
Responsabilitatea lui Timotei
18 Această poruncă ţi-o încredinţez, Timotei, fiule, potrivit profeţiilor făcute în trecut despre tine, ca prin ele să duci lupta cea bună, 19 având credinţă şi o conştiinţă bună, pe care unii au părăsit-o şi de aceea şi-au pierdut credinţa. 20 Printre ei sunt Imeneu şi Alexandru, pe care i-am dat Satanei, ca să se înveţe să nu mai vorbească împotriva lui Dumnezeu.

3 As I besought thee to abide still at Ephesus, when I went into Macedonia, that thou mightest charge some that they teach no other doctrine, 4 Neither give heed to fables and endless genealogies, which minister questions, rather than godly edifying which is in faith: so do . 5 Now the end of the commandment is charity out of a pure heart, and of a good conscience, and of faith unfeigned: 6 From which some having swerved have turned aside unto vain jangling; 7 Desiring to be teachers of the law; understanding neither what they say, nor whereof they affirm. 8 But we know that the law is good, if a man use it lawfully; 9 Knowing this, that the law is not made for a righteous man, but for the lawless and disobedient, for the ungodly and for sinners, for unholy and profane, for murderers of fathers and murderers of mothers, for manslayers, 10 For whoremongers, for them that defile themselves with mankind, for menstealers, for liars, for perjured persons, and if there be any other thing that is contrary to sound doctrine; 11 According to the glorious gospel of the blessed God, which was committed to my trust. 12 And I thank Christ Jesus our Lord, who hath enabled me, for that he counted me faithful, putting me into the ministry; 13 Who was before a blasphemer, and a persecutor, and injurious: but I obtained mercy, because I did it ignorantly in unbelief. 14 And the grace of our Lord was exceeding abundant with faith and love which is in Christ Jesus. 15 This is a faithful saying, and worthy of all acceptation, that Christ Jesus came into the world to save sinners; of whom I am chief. 16 Howbeit for this cause I obtained mercy, that in me first Jesus Christ might shew forth all longsuffering, for a pattern to them which should hereafter believe on him to life everlasting. 17 Now unto the King eternal, immortal, invisible, the only wise God, be honour and glory for ever and ever. Amen. 18 This charge I commit unto thee, son Timothy, according to the prophecies which went before on thee, that thou by them mightest war a good warfare; 19 Holding faith, and a good conscience; which some having put away concerning faith have made shipwreck: 20 Of whom is Hymenaeus and Alexander; whom I have delivered unto Satan, that they may learn not to blaspheme.
